Oh, the people you meet!
May. 3rd, 2007 07:45 amSo I was spending a little time puttering around a forum board at one of the many sites I visit, when a post caught my attention.
The girl was looking for some information on the Vietnam War and one of the replier made mention of the fact that her great g'pa had a few opinions on that war, and his name was Bill Mauldin.
Jaw drop.
I have his book. He was a cartoonist who went in with the front line troops in WW2 and his book detailing his experiences and some of his best cartoons was considered to be one of the finest books to come out of that war.
It's called "Up Front", and I really do reccomend reading it if you ever want a good look at how the common soldier thought, felt, fought and died.
And I just met one of is family.
Neat!
